Milwaukeeans: You are SUCH good cookies!

  Wow!  Just Wow.  Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude to everyone who came out for the MKEfoodies Holiday Bake Sale over the weekend.

We had an amazing time.  There was milk donated by Outpost Natural Foods, and door prizes provided by numerous Milwaukee business, including Purple Door Ice Cream, Bartolotta's Restaurants, Meritage, Stone Creek Coffee and countless others.

Peef was the most adorable Santa Claus you ever did see, and everyone had tons of fun chatting and buying cookies and feeling REALLY awesome about raising money for such a great cause.

We thought it was pretty amazing when we SOLD OUT of cookies in the first hour and a half of the bake sale.  But, we found it even more amazing when we started counting.  Turns out we sold over 1900 cookies and baked goods, and made just over $1600 for Cookies for Kids' Cancer.  While that amount, in and of itself might not be impressive, it gets better.  With the dollar-for-dollar match from OXO, and the $1 per cookie match from the Glad Corporation, our total reaches over $5,000!

If you ask me, that's a pretty darned good bake sale!  So, THANK YOU to everyone who supported our efforts this year. And, if you live in the Milwaukee area, please mark your calendars for the second weekend in December next year for the 3rd Annual Bake Sale!

Crack Brownies: Until There's a Cure.

Yikes, this past weekend was busy. In fact, I couldn’t seem to stop yawning at work today. Fortunately, I also found it difficult to stop smiling.

This past weekend was the MKEfoodies Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Bake Sale. And it was a success! Thanks to the generosity of 45+ bakers and awesome volunteers, and the phenomenal donations from area businesses for our silent auction, we were able to raise over $2100 for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.

All day long on Saturday I found myself increasingly amazed by how many people had given of their time & talents to make our event happen. There is no way that Peef and I could have pulled this thing off on our own. And there were so many kind-hearted folks from Milwaukee who helped out. We wish that every single one of you could have been there -- to eat sweet treats with us and celebrate the victories that science is making in the area of pediatric cancer research. But, since you couldn't, we decided to bring a small piece of the event to you. Our contribution to the event was a double batch of these amazing [better than] “Crack Brownies”.

Imagine a pan of rich fudgey brownies, sprinkled with peanuts and chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups, and then topped with a layer of peanut butter fudge rice krispie treats… yeah, they’re seriously addicting. Until there's a cure for pediatric cancer, I'm glad there are goodies like this to support the cause!

Video: Cookies For Kids’ Cancer Bake Sale Initiative

Sometimes, it's the little things that matter. It's the times when people come together for a common cause, when they give of themselves freely and utterly, without regard for the consequences.

It's when they decide to go all out... and make cookies.

Seriously, folks. It's really that easy. This past month, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer announced a call to action for a record breaking month of bake sales in May to honor what would have been the 7th birthday of Liam Witt, the inspiration behind the cause. To motivate supporters, The Glad Products Company stepped forward with $225,000 to match all money raised by Cookies for Kids’ Cancer bake sales in the month of May.  And my good friend Amy from the blog Very Culinary stepped up and announced a call to action for bloggers everywhere.

This video is a part of that call.  Please watch -- and then consider taking part on your own terms.
