Rosemary Simple Syrup

So, I happened upon this recipe for rosemary simple syrup on Apartment Therapy/The Kitchn. Can you say "OH, yum!"?

Some of you know that I have a serious love affair going on with rosemary (I bought upwards of six plant for my garden this summer). But, I'm having a bit of a time thinking about putting it in a drink.

Help me out here, guys. Rosemary syrup... a simple vodka martini with rosemary? What would you do with it?

  1. When I was a teen, I didn't know much about rosemary. One day a teen magazine suggested brewing rosemary steeped in boiling water as a hair rinse (It was summer, I was riding every day, and I wanted to make sure my hair was extra-clean and not the least bit horsey). I rummaged in Mom's spice rack, brewed the stuff, and as soon as the infusion cooled, I sniffed it. It smelled intriguiging. I wasn't sure I liked the smell, but I just had to taste it...

Well, I downed the whole thing. It was very different and refreshing. I had to brew more for that hair rinse.

I'd totally drink a drink with rosemary-infused syrup!

  2. What a great story!

We've actually been brainstorming a bit at our house, and I think the rosemary syrup would be a perfect match for lemonade... and I'm also wondering if there is a "rosemary mojito" concept waiting to be hatched.

We might just have to report back!

  3. I just saw a recipe in Wine Enthusiast magazine for a cocktail using rosemary simple syrup. I think this is a sign that I need to try it!

  4. I would muttle some mango or strawberry and add it to your rosemary-vodka concoction. Sounds great.

  5. rosemary syrup sounds amazing... I'm thinking bake with it... A pear tart with rosemary would work incredibly well! I've definatley seen a recipe somewhere for a pear and rosemary tart. I think it also involved port wine... nuff said - now I'm drooling...!

  6. Hmmm. I'm thinking that a pork roast or pork chops might do well with a bit of rosemary syrup as a second sauce or a main. You know?
